Inspired by Duran’s grandfather, Welcome to Florida navigates you through a child’s recollection of those chaotic yet repetitive winter days. Surrounded by big brown jackets. Spontaneous yet sly runs to the corner store, saving up nickels and pennies in hopes of a cheap treat. Your grandpa nagging at you as a religious figure dangles from his neck. Making you question what it’s all for, but in the end knowing you wouldn’t change a thing.
About the Artist:
Chicago native Christopher Duran is a multidisciplinary artist who obtained a Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts from the American Academy of Art. His work tethers together childlike impulsivity and innocence into nostalgic iconography. The notion of purity in self-remembrance is what the work encapsulates.
